It’s been getting chillier lately in our area, so more people are wearing long pants, long-sleeve shirts, and jackets. This is logical and sensible attire for autumn. But for some reason, girls just can’t let go of their flip-flops (thongs to you yankees).
Sunday, while the family was shopping at Target, I saw a teenage girl wearing a sweater over a tank top, a miniskirt, leg warmers (yes, leg warmers), and flip-flops. I nudged Cowgrit and surreptitiously pointed at the girl. Cowgrit looked at her, then looked at me, “What in the world?”
The leg warmers alone would have been good for a nostalgic chuckle, but leg warmers with flip-flops? And flip-flops in late October?
A couple hours later, in Panera for lunch, I spotted a college-age girl wearing a coat, a scarf, long stretchy pants, and flip-flops. If she’s cold enough to need a coat and scarf, aren’t her feet freezing?
Are flip-flops so fashionable nowadays that wearing them is more important than warmth? Or am I to believe that women’s feet don’t get cold?

Calfgrit7 and I went to see Walking With Dinosaurs. It’s a truly awesome show, and photos just can’t do it justice. Even video can’t give you the full feeling of seeing and hearing the life-size and life-like creatures right in front of you.
The puppetry and animatronics are amazingly well choreographed, to the point of looking completely natural — the dinos even blink. The structure and skin of the creatures are detailed down to scars, wrinkles, and even mucus. This is Hollywood-quality effects.
I bought the mid-range tickets and was so impressed with our spot in the audience that I can’t even imagine what view the high-priced seats could give that we didn’t get. Any closer and CG7 would have been terrified — some of the dinosaurs, like the tyrannosaurus, came right to the edge of the stage and roared. The wide-angle photo, here, distorts the view we had — we felt much closer than the image looks like.
There’s even more to the show than just dinosaurs walking around the stage. It’s entertaining, educational, and even humorous at times. I highly recommend this show. Although half the audience was kids under 12 (mostly boys), you don’t need kids to go see this. There were some kid-less couples at the show, and this was far more impressive than any movie I’ve seen. The fact that all the dinos were “real,” right there in front of us, puts movie special effects to shame.

Due to logistical problems because of the ongoing house repairs, I wasn’t able to make a post for today.

If I was a billionaire, I’d create a production company to make modern music videos for older, pre-1980s songs. I’d love to make a Hotel California music-story video. That’d be cool as hell. I can imagine the whole visual story in my head, and I’d love to see that in video form.
There’re lots of old story songs that would make great story videos. Imagine seeing Werewolves of London as a music-story video. I always think of the movie An American Werewolf in London when I hear Werewolves of London on the radio.
Imagine how cool these songs would be as modern music-story videos:
- Highway to Hell
- Bad Company
- Welcome to My Nightmare
- Rapper’s Delight
- Carry on Wayward Son
- Riders in the Storm
- Fat Bottom Girls
- Copacabana
- Margarittaville
- Play That Funky Music
- Bad, Bad Leroy Brown
- Gimme Three Steps
If I were a billionaire, I would definitely finance this kind of project. Yeah, I know some of these songs have old videos, but they’re mostly concert footage. I want to make these as modern story videos (but not like Thriller, not a video longer than the song itself).
