Captain America Movie

I am excited and apprehensive.

The movie website.

Captain America is my greatest hero. I respect him above any Star Wars or Star Trek character, and above any other superhero. This movie could be awesome, or it could be terrible. Sadly, from what I’ve seen produced by Hollywood in the past decade, I don’t give awesome a 50/50 chance. I don’t trust Hollywood with this kind of character.

I almost don’t want to even talk about this. Such is my great fear of it being total crap, and being a total rape of the Captain America story. As much as I would love to see a well-done Cap’n A movie, I also very much would tell Hollywood, “Don’t you dare put your shitty little hands on this icon.”

But it’s too late for that. It’s done. We’ll see what the result is in July.

I was the same way with spiderman and the whole Maryjane first girlfriend thing really put me off at first. Then I took a step back thought about it and just went with it. The way I get around it is to look at it as an alternate universe storyline kindaof a whatif comic. From the previews they got it mostly right and I have high hopes. Thor on the other hand welllll that one I will just have to enjoy as a good ole slugfest special effects movie.

I think Spider-Man turned out decent. But then, at its heart, (from Hollywood’s point of view), it’s about an angsty teenager. Hollywood is used to churning out movies about angsty teenagers. (I’m not slamming Spider-Man, here.)

I’m afraid Hollywood will see Captain America as just an American super patriot, and Hollywood falters when portraying American patriotism in films.

Captain America doesn’t really “stand for America,” it’s more that he stands for the same things that America stands for. This I doubt Hollywood can understand, or portray.

And Thor, well, Thor has always been mostly a big flashy slugfester. And I love him for it.
